My Kingdom For A Poem

“My kingdom for a poem!”  He says,

“For I am dying soon.

Let it brighten my last days

As I hasten to my doom.

Describe in it the sun’s rays

And the beauty of the moon,

Then beckon death for me to come,

In your poem for my kingdom”.

Today’s prompt was writing in ottava rima so I decided to give it a shot.

The Breakup

How can you stand there
And say that to me?
After all we’ve been through
It just cannot be.
Don’t say it’s over
At least let us try
We have invested too much
To just let this die.

There’s no fight left in me
I am tired and worn
My poor heart’s broken
Like paper it’s torn
Goodbye my true love
Forever goodbye
Don’t worry about me
I just need to cry.

On The Seashore

th

She is happy to see me and licks my feet.
Leaving them wet from her watery tongue.
I stand there enjoying the attention.
Giggling as she reaches between my toes, tongue
caressing my ankles.
Then she embarrassingly recedes and I’m left standing in disappointment.
My quickly drying feet missing the attention.
Then she’s back! But only for one last loving caress.
She touches me lightly and almost reluctantly.
Then she’s gone.
Quietly back to her home in the sea.
While I alone on the seashore stand.
Longing for her cool touch once again.
Goodbye wave!

Goodbye Old Man Winter

th (1)It’s getting rather late, old man
You really have to go.
And don’t forget to take with you
Your now unwanted snow.
You have worn out your welcome
At first you were a guest
But now I am not sad to say
You’re nothing but a pest!

So goodbye old man Winter.
You need to go right now.
If Spring should find you lurking here,
There would be such a row.
Your blizzards and your freezing temps
We don’t want anymore.
Let me be the perfect host
And walk you to the door.

Walk safe, old man Winter!
Watch your step out there!
And don’t you be in a rush
To come back next year.
I hate being rude to seniors
Forgive me if I’m crass
But when you walk out of the door
I hope it smacks your ass!

Goodbye Winter.  Oh hello Spring!

Note: The poem prompt for today is to write a goodbye poem.  I just had to re-share this one but will still write a new one for today.

I Don’t Know Poetry

Iambic pentameter
Couplet or cinquain
Different forms of poetry
That just confuse my brain.

ABC and rondeau
Acrostic and canzone
Stanzas, rhymes and verses
And don’t forget the tone.

I can write a limerick
Even a couplet too
But writing an epigram
I am not sure I could do.

This is all so confusing
And readers, I am sorry
I have to make a confession
I just don’t know poetry.

Thursday Thoughts

In my ‘about’ page, I promised to only write in poetry form but I’ve decided to forego that just this one time.   I promise.  I just wanted to talk to you normally.

A Buffet Of Thoughts has turned out to be my favorite blog.  I enjoy writing every poem and because most, if not all, of them are composed spontaneously, I often write with a big grin on my face as I relate some funny story.   The feedback has been a good motivation also.  Yesterday,  Buffet Of Thoughts received its 50th follower!   Not a large throng I admit, but I am thankful for little things.  Even 5 likes make my day.  I meant 1 like.

For the month of April, those of you who are following me would see a daily poem in your inbox.  (Lucky you!).  If that’s too much then I’m sorry but I am taking part in the National Poetry Writing Month or NaPoWriMo and that means I have to submit one poem a day.  When it’s over, I promise to write only once a week or so.

To spruce things up a bit, I have decided to introduce two characters, Gilles and Mavis to the mix.  Gilles is the bumbling and not-so-smart husband and Mavis basically wears the pants.  Some of my poems will be centered around their adventures.  Should be fun, let’s see how it goes.  (Gilles happens to be the name of my father-in-law also.  Just saying…).

Thanks again for all the love likes.  Stick around, I think I have a couple good poems still left in me.  Actually, I am sure of it.

Angel In The Doorway

There she stood

Silhouetted by the sunlight.

Her wedding dress

Angel wings

Around her.

She remains still

Like a photo

Framed by the doorway.

And I gazed

Upon her visage

And wondered,

“Is this my Angel?”

Then she took flight.

Slowly approaching me

As I anxiously waited

For her to meet me

At the pulpit.

Her slow and measured

Steps made me breathless

With expectation.

“Faster!  Come faster!”

Still she floats slowly to me.

After what seemed like an

Eternity

She was at my side

Looking at me

While I beamed at her.

I was oblivious to my

Environment.

Just me and my angel.

Yes,

The Angel In

The Doorway

It’s A Damn UFO, Mavis!

Mavis look! Way up in the sky!
Is that a UFO?
No hon, come back to bed
And close the damn window!

But Mavis please come take a look,
And tell me what you think.
My eyes are not fooling me
I never had one drink.

Leave me alone! Let me sleep!
You and your UFO bunk!
Don’t you know it’s 2am?
I am sure you must be drunk!

Well fine! Just lie there in bed!
What do you even know?
It’s a damn UFO, Mavis!
An effing UFO!

NaPoWriMo

The Dark Place

That dark place I loathe to go
Where only bad thoughts flow.
No gladness
Just sadness
No Joy, just pain and sorrow.

No! I scream to no avail
Tried resisting but I fail
Unhappy
So unlike me
Locked in my mental jail.

Oh dark place, where is your light?
I cannot see so I can’t fight
Headache
Heartbreak
I succumb to the night.

NaPoWriMo Day 3

Thought I Saw

I thought I saw a pussycat
But it was just a real big rat.
The biggest rat I’ve ever seen
For sure a rat king or a queen.

I had gotten up to pee
It was dark, I couldn’t see.
But could tell that it was big
Almost like a baby pig.

He brushed against my leg I swear
And that was when I felt his hair.
I know you won’t believe me now
But I am almost sure he said ‘meow’.

Please believe me, I never lie
I saw a rat-cat with my two eyes!
I told my wife what I had seen.
She laughed and said to me, “Rat Queen?’

But my eyesight has no flaw
I know what I thought I saw
It was right there in front of me
A rat that looked like a big pussy.
